FOOD SHORTAGES
Out of the 7 billion people in the world, there are 5 billion with cellphones and 3 billion living in poverty. Meaning some people can’t afford basic needs but can afford phones.
PROBLEM STATEMNT
“We live in an era where 5 billion people have cellphones and 3 billion live in poverty. People can access technology but not their basic needs. We are missing an important link; between the food industry and our devices. We need a platform which always people to use their phones to access excess stock and help distribute to communities in need.”
PRIMARY MARKET
- Malnourished people
- People living in poverty
- The lower economic sector
SECONDARY MARKET
- Companies with excess stock
- Shopping centres
- Food factories selling their off cuts
TERTIARY MARKET
- Communities
- Food Companies
- The Government
- Companies with CSR
An app were people who can’t afford there basic needs can reach out to companies who have the resources they consider waste are able to support and sell at a lower cost.
RCL sells 100 million loaves of bread and around 5% is wasted. So around 5 million loaves goes to pig farmers as pig feed for 50 cents a loaf as opposed to the normal R12/R13 a loaf.
These loaves aren’t expired or mouldy, they’ve just passed their shelf live for the store. Now instead of selling them to the pigs why don’t they sell them to people at a discounted price.
The app could send out a location and time of a market where a delivery truck will stop (in a township or something similar) and sell these loaves at a cheaper rate.
