I knew colour grading would be hard… but yoh, im really struggling with this. I took the finished footage into Resolve and realised that I need to cut the footage up into its different scenes, so that I could edit there colours individually. Obviously I couldn’t just slap one LUT onto the whole video and call it a day. So I went and cut everything up, according to the different scenes and then went into the colour sections. Ive been looking at different LUTS to use on FreshLuts, some of them are very cool, but I need to find ones that work with my film. Ive changed the LUTs that i want to use a couple of times but one thing that remains is that the footage becomes super saturated, there is just so much colour going on and ive tried playing around with the different settings, saturation, lift, gamma etc, but sometimes theres one colour in the scene that is just ridiculously bright and I dont know how to tone down just that one. I think my main problem is that since I shot on my phone, the colours are already super bright, so adding a LUT onto it makes is look terrible.
There some scenes that look good with the colours and all of them are in the boxes or below – for where they need to be in terms of the RGB graph, but then there will be 1 colour that is way out, and when I lower it, all the other colours become so dull and almost grey…
